tonight I started getting errors whenever I tried to load or save a document, 
though it had worked fine before.  I get a dialog that "An unrecoverable error 
has occurred" and it sends a report to Microsoft.  The only changes to my 
system are that I uninstalled jdk 1.4rc1 and installed the jdk 1.4 release.  
I'll try to roll back to 1.3.1 of java tomorrow.

Hi Mike,
this behaviour is not reproducible here. Try to reset the java-
environment for OpenOffice by starting the jvmsetup.exe in the 
OpenOffice-programm folder. If it solves your problem, please close 
this issue.

I uninstalled JDK 1.4 and Open Office, then reinstalled JDK 1.3.1_02 
and Open Office, works fine now
