Description koyaanisqatsi 2004-07-02 20:08:23 UTC
In MS Excel you can type something into a cell, then click on that cell, hit
CTRL+K, paste a URL, and hit enter to keep working. (In OpenOffice, you must
select the text before pasting a hyperlink; else nothing will be linked).

Making your links in Excel as described above causes numerical links to fail in
OpenOffice (though they will all work in Excel, and alpha links made that way in
Excel will work in both programs).

After some trial and error, I've found that you can get those numerical links to
work by doing the following: open the sheet in Excel, go to the first
non-hyperlinked entry and retype the entry in the location bar at the top, then
hit enter and save the file. That link will now work in OpenOffice. To get the
rest of the numerical links to work, you must simply click in the location bar
and hit enter--with or without changing anything--then save the file in Exel and
reopen it in OpenOffice.

I wonder if OpenOffice might arrange a way to read links written this way in
Excel. I expect it's sloppy coding on Microsoft's part, but it would be nice to
accomodate them as they have most of the market share.

Best wishes,

Hi Daniel,

type 123 into a cell in Excel. Press CTRL+K and type an URL into the dialog.
Save the documnet and open it in OOo
The former link is not imported. If you do it with abc, it works.

intermitantly confirmed on OOo 2.0, i386 Win2k SP4 platform:

(uploading test3.xls) Spreadsheet shows 5 cells with hyperlinks in Excel
(Microsoft Excel 2000 (9.0.2720)), and only the first one shows up in OOo 2.0.
Hope this helps,
-Jon

Calc only supports hyperlinks in text cells. That is because it inserts a hyperlink
textfield into the cell, while Excel stores the hyperlink as cell property. In the
attached file, the first cell contains text that looks like a number, the other cells
are numbers.

Additionally confirmed this issue in OOo 2.2 on Win XP.
Numerical hyperlinks are converted as cells with a simple number only in
hyperlink format (only blue text colouring and underlined)

A possible workaround for the import filter is to replace numeric cells with
formula cells using the HYPERLINK function

I do believe that I'm having the same trouble.

In MS Excel a cell with an equation =Sheet1!B10 and a hyperlink to cell
Sheet1B10
When I import it into Calc the equation is fine but lose the hyperlink

This is the only bug I'm not liking, but when it gets fixed YeeHa!!

Daniel,
any chance of targeting this issue for 3.2?
Thanks a lot.

KP.
Comment 17 daniel.rentz 2009-03-31 11:55:50 UTC
don't think so because of the dependency to issue 91351
Comment 18 kpalagin 2009-03-31 12:26:55 UTC
Do you have some estimate for 91351?
Thanks.

not my issue, please ask there. But ODF TC is involved, therefore probably some
more time will be needed.
