calc, paste, word beginning with apostrophe results word without apostrophe
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
In Tahitian language (or maybe other language), some words begin with apostrophe. Example : 'ava'ava which means tabacco or cigarette. But paste those words in calc result no beginning apostrophe in cell. How to reproduce : - copy the word 'ava'ava from a webpage or from an text editor - paste in any cell - the word in cell is ava'ava Note : - To enter a word with apostrophe as first letter, type two times the apostrophe key. - In calc, between cells, copy/paste works for those words - In excel 2000, work with word with apostrophe as first letter is uncertain. Don't know for others (Corel, Gnumeric...)
Hi, the apostrophe is used to tell an Calc cell which is formatted as number that the inserted content is to handle as text. Eike could something be done to change the current behaviour ? Frank
Input starting with an apostrophe would have to be interpreted to determine whether it would be text even without the apostrophe and then don't throw away the apostrophe. This would result in behavior where it's not predictable if a leading apostrophe would be discarded, as opposed to today, where it's always discarded. I'm not sure if we want that => assigning to the User Experience team. Not a defect, RFE, P4.
