Description utomo99 2004-05-08 04:03:20 UTC
Preview the formatting and style.
in the style pane we did not see the preview of what is the style looking.
in MS Office we can see the formatting preview, so we know it before apply it.
and it will make it easier to use.
In Font we already have the preview, so it become easy to use.

I agree with utomo99. This shouldn't be too difficult to implement to the UI
(suggestion follows [jpg]). The applying logic can be left intact as single
click highlights the style and shows preview (if selected) and double-click
applies the style.

Suggested feature actually outstrips the Word's 'Style and Formatting' menu's
functionality: You can move up and down the style list with arrow keys and show
only preview to the highlighted style (I assume this is more computationally
friendly than showing them all). Combined with the ability to apply the style
with <enter>, this is going to add hugely to the usability and programs 'feel'.

Nice mockup!
I (personally) like the idea of a preview-box and not a preview in the window
itself..

setting keywords, reassigning

Very good idea!
One more use case: coloring cells in Calc. If i use styles for this operation, i
need to name each style by it purpose: NoteBene, VIP-client, Good, Closed.

So, if i see a small square from left|right of style name (or in stylename
string itself), with actual colors of fill and border - it perfect! Like
"diagram legend" for hole document.

The name of style should preview: font name, font style (normal, bold, italic),
font color.

Preview of styles - very important step for best usability!
