Description sal1981 2004-05-03 06:39:09 UTC
The "issue type" is more precisily explained as a processor lag problem, than an
actual defect.

Product:	OpenOffice 1.1.0, HTML document wordprocessor
OS: Windows XP 5.1.2600 (Home Edition, Service Pack 1)
Hardware:	HP Pavilion 2200 notebook
Processor:	Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP2200+
RAM: 192MB

The problem arises when the word processor tries to display an image which is
FTP or HTTP linked. This is an easily reproducible problem. I've written two
ways to reproduce it.

1. Simply copy the HTML source from any web page with any image (valid IMG tag
line) into the HTML document, which has a HTTP or FTP location. Then view the
HTML documents with those images. The wordprocessor lags the program for a breif
period of time, about 5-10 seconds. The program doesn't respond to commands and
is in the "Windows Joblist" ((translated from Danish, "Windows jobliste") listed
as "not responding".

2. One can also reproduce the problem by writing in the HTML source in the HTML
document a valid IMG tag line, e.g. Write <IMG
src=http://www.geocities.com/smileysal1981/MissonaryMan.gif>. When this IMG tag
line has been written, and clicks to view the example then the lag problem
arises (and it doesn't display the image for that matter, but that is not a
problem, in my view).

This problem is resolved if the [Graphics on/off] icon on the Main Toolbar is
set to "off" setting ...

... I wonder why I wrote this then, and wasted 2 minutes of your time :-P

Hi!

Thank you for this detailed and precize report!

This problem is not that trivial as it looks!
If you cut your Internet conection before pasting or have set no proxy (if
required) in OOo's Options, OOo will apparently freeze during several *minutes*.

It's a known problem we need to address but the "fix" for this needs to be
specified. So, though I consider this as bug, I'll flag it "enhancement"

ES->BH:

Short description:
- set no proxy in OOo or turn off your Internet connection.
- find a Web page with some linked graphics (Ex: search on Google for
"Openoffice.org" in the "Images" search category)
- copy the result page.
- paste it in OOo (any module)
-> OOo tries to retrieve the linked graphics which causes an apparent freeze of
the application during several minutes.
