Description caolanm 2002-01-14 13:19:00 UTC
A long standing problem is that users do not know how to attach a bugdocument to
issuezilla. They get told how to do it only after they submit it. At least
mention on bug submission page that they will be able to attach the bug after
the description is commited. And ideally allow the bugdoc to be attached during
the first step. Everyones first submission starts with "I don't see how to
attach a bugdocument so..."

And the mime types available to describe the uploaded documents amusingly do not
list any of our OpenOffice mime types.

Caolan,
I will mention in the general instructions how to attach an file. Send me the MIME
types for Ooo and I will mention them. Do keep in mind that IZ is a generic product
that can be customized to a particular instantiation--but only if there is information
for this process.

Louis- assigning back to you to include the mime types in the docs.
Please assign back to support when you're done, and tell me what
verbage you want added to the issue submission page. (See the
netbeans page:
http://www.netbeans.org/issues/enter_bug.cgi?component=www
for inspiration.)

Louis, can you give me some feedback on this.

Over and over again submitters to issues of sw are starting their bug
descriptions with "I see no way to attach a document, mail me to get
it", and other varients. Many of them then then miss the "attach
document" after submitting their bug, this is honestly wasting testers
time tracking down missing bugdocuments from users, wasting developers
time waiting for the documents to show up and providing an unnecesary
barrer to participation to understandably confused users. I really
think that just adding one line of text "you will get the chance to
attach files to this issue after it is initially submitted" to the bug
submission page would sort most of this out.
