Description alkra 2004-04-17 21:06:51 UTC
When I import a Hebrew text from the Program Bible Works (version 5) the text
shows up completely messed up and unreadable. This applies to version 1.1.0 rc4
of Open Office, both in the text editor and the Presentaton. However when the
text is saved and then opened in another editor (MS Word or OpenOffice 1.0) the
text is normal. Bible Works is used in most theological seminaries, and this
problem makes vesion 1.1 unusable for students of theology. Is there a solution
for this problem?

I am a theological student and ran into exactly the same issue with a simple cut
and paste from BibleWorks 6 into OpenOffice 1.1.1, but with the Greek fonts.
It's mainly with the accents and other diacritics in Greek, and with the vowel
pointing and accents in Hebrew. I am increasingly convinced that it has
something to do with how OpenOffice is handling fonts, and others have posted
similar conclusions in forums used by BibleWorks fans.

The fonts in question are available here: http://www.bibleworks.com/fonts.html

no problem on linux (see screenshot); Windows only problem -> same problem as
issue 26466 -> fixed with issue 21821
duplicate.

*** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 21821 ***

If the screenshot does not show the desired characters/formatting please reopen
this issue.
You can check whether this issue is fixed by trying the developer snapshot from
http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html

Solution for now:
* Either use unicode-fonts,
* OOo on linux or
* the developer snapshots (may be unstable, crash, loose data... - don't use
this for productional work)
