Description Unknown 2001-12-31 16:20:27 UTC
In reading the requirements for compiling the sources I have found that
OpenOffice will not compile on the Linux Redhat 7.2 which uses GCC 2.96.

I stepped back to Mandrake Linux 7.2 and it installed the GCC 2.95.3 compiler.

After installing the GPC files and also STLport4.5.1 (which compiled with no
problems) I was able to ./configure with no problems and even "tcsh",
and "source ....."

The problem is that "./bootstrap" give me parse errors in the gcc include files
which should not be happening.

When will OpenOffice be able to compile on the (now) standard GCC 2.96?

cheers,
Lonnie

Reassigning support@ issues to issues@www so louis can go through these.

the appropriate component is "tools".
Comment 3 Martin Hollmichel 2002-01-17 15:58:20 UTC
please specify the parse errors !

OpenOffice.org support the standard gcc releases 2.95.x and 3.0.x. I
don't think that there will be support for the 2.96 release of gcc.

It appears that, after reading over the documentation and consultin
the mailing list, the OpenOffice will not compile on the RedHat 7.2
which uses the gcc 2.96 compiler.

From my information obtained from the mailing list, the OpenOffice
group has no interest in making OpenOffice work with this compiler.

This is unfortunate because the newest releases of Redhat and
Mandrake use this compiler and I have had no luck with trying to
install a gcc 2.95.x compiler.

It is my hopes that the group will get the OpenOffice suite to
compile with the gcc 2.96 compiler so that I may be able to
contribute to the project.

We were also going to use the OpenOffice suite in a project that we
are working on and which will promote the use of
StarOffice/OpenOffice in a VERY large way to the general public, but
we need to get a small change made to the was that OpenOffice opens
and saves files.

without being able to compile this code, we may not be able to use
OpenOffice in our project.

Best regards,
Lonnie

I do not know of anybody who is working on a gcc 2.96 port. If there
are patches to make openoffice.org compile with 2.96, we will accept
them if they are not breaking the other builds.

We do our best to support the most recent official releases of gcc
(see gcc.gnu.org/releases.html). 2.95.x and 3.0.x are supported.

since I do not find anybody who is willing to support 2.96, this is a
wontfix

As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved duplicate
issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is
unfortunately to set them to verified.
