Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26688
State Need to Login on ProjectMailingListList to Subscribe
Last modified: 2004-03-23 14:46:02 UTC
From time to time, I receive "support requests" from users who want to subscribe to our project's mailing lists, but are unable to, since there seems to be no possibility on http://dba.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList. Of course, the possibility is there, but the user needs to be logged in - then, the "subscribe" buttons appear on the list. Unfortunately, there is no hint about this on the site itself, so the user is lost with no idea what to do. Would it be possible to add a statement to the top of the generated ProjectMailingListList pages, saying something like "If you want to subscribe to one of the lists, please log in first", or something like this? Alternatively, making the Subscribe button to appear *always*, and producing an error message when the user is not logged in, may be an option.
this was an issue raised early on after the migration but evidently an issue was not filed, at least not one that I could find. a related issue is http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=24407, the absent "digest" button. In each case the solution might be simply change the default 'gues' permission to include viewing lists and subscription options. routing to ST.
This issue is related to issue 24869 The trick is that the buttons subscribe/unsubscribe the address <login>@openoffice.org to/from the list and no permission change can help us here. What we can do is add some text on the list of lists pages. If somebody would phrase a nice paragraph about "... login and subscribe or use <listname>-subscribe@<project>.openoffice.org ...", I would be gladd to add it to the site.
<suggestion> If you are not <a href="http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/Login">logged in</a>, yet, you may want to do so. This will allow you to subscribe to the mailing lists below. </suggestion>
Frank, I added the text you suggested.
thanks!
