Description lolomic 2004-03-18 08:53:27 UTC
Windows 98 SE - OOo 1.1.0 - Windows files&Printer sharing (not Novell)

1. Open a network folder where you have full rights (I didn't try with Read-Only
rights only). My remote folder is located on a W2k - SP3 computer.
2. Double-Click on any .SXW or SXC (I didn't try with presentation document)
3. You will see the start-up Screen OOo and the progress bar
4. Then it ends without opening document.

If you re-do steps 2. it will re-do step 3. and step 4. but still not open the
document.

If you start OOo and THEN you open the same document located on network (from
the File/open menu), then it works = it open it.

Oups, I miss something : The component is NOT ONLY Word processor but affect all
components (Spreadsheet and obviously Presentation). However I didn't know what
to set "Component" to. I left it to "Word Processor".

This issue still exists in OO.o 1.1.1. It appears to only affect files that are
not on the computer. EG:
when I try to open \\myserver\myfolder\mydocument.xls, I get this problem. It
does now pop up an error reporting page.
However, when I map \\myserver\myfolder\ to a network drive inside the OS, the
problem does not occur.
\\myserver is an nt4 file server
my machine is windows xp.

Might this need to be moved to API?

I experience the same problem.
I was very disappointed when I saw that 1.1.1 did not solve that issue.
I believe this problem is an important factor against the adoption of OO in most
companies: people cannot browse the network, double click on a file and have it
opened.
