Description calummurdo 2004-03-01 22:47:12 UTC
If you put in a date e.g. 2/3/4 in A1 and then put =month(a1) in B2 you get 3 as
the answer.
If you then right click on B2 and select Format and create a user defined format
of Mmm it returns Jan rather than Mar.

Hi,

this is not a bug. Month() returns a number, in this case 3 (if locales are set
to use ddmmyy). This numbers is made to a serial date using the custom
numberformat. Zero (0) is the serial number for 30.12.1899, so 3 is the serial
date for 02.01.1900 and therefore the numberformat MMM is set to January. As you
can see this is not a bug.
