Description kelvine 2004-02-29 14:36:58 UTC
Hi,

In the near future I may need to have read only access to live data from an
application that has dBase tables.

The problem is using the OpenOffice.org dBase driver the first user gets
read/write access and each subsequent user gets read access.

This will potentially lock the real users out of their application as they are
not always going to be the first user to access the data.

If OpenOffice.org had the ability to set up access to dBase files as read only
as an option in the data source, this would get around the problem.

This would also enhance the use of dBase within OpenOffice.org. In a small
office situation it is common for a single person to maintain data whilst
other people simply have read only access to the file. Eg Office telephone
list. By defining each user except the main user as being read only, the main
user could still have read/write access. The current approach could be
maintained if the user's access was not defined, or two or more users were
inadvertently defined as read/write.

I don't know if this is possible, but I thought I would make the suggestion.

Thanks

Kelvin

reassign to bh, for evaluating.

grabbing, targeting. No intention to really work on it, but BH won't do either :)

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
