Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25971
selectable compression strength like archivers
Last modified: 2014-03-03 13:35:01 UTC
Hi. I found that ZIP-Archivers can compress the content of OOo-files much better than OOo does. I think OOo should have selectable compression strength like good ZIP-archivers in order to enable better compression of the OOo-files.
TM->BH: Please have a look, thanks !
I don't know what ZIP-routines you use. But for example the often used InfoZIP and the stronger (but slower) 7-zip (not 7z!) routines support selectable compression strength.
... as far as I know.

IMHO compression speed >> compression strength

Right now OpenOffice is holding user data hostage by using the error-prone compressed file format. Even single bit error can render them useless. The implementation of store-only compression is a MUST for data safety.
