Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25674
Caption references fail with master document
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
When integrating documents to masterdocument (12 documents all in all), references to caption numbers of tables fail partially. In come occasions the references are just fine, whereas some of them seem to pick a new caption number somewhat sporadically, although from within same subdocument (for example Table 5 should be Table 2). If the subdocument is opened, numberings are just fine within it. The problem exists with both 1.1.0 and 1.1.1b.
I've noticed the same problem as well. I worked around it by numbering them manually, but with one 64 chapter document, it was (and is) a huge pain -- not just a small irritation.

Changed to P3 since not dataloss and workaround available
Created attachment 13550 [details] Master document with numbering problems
Created attachment 13551 [details] Fisrt subdocument for the masterdocument
Created attachment 13552 [details] Second subdocument for the master
I attached three files as an example (masterdocument, two subdocuments). The situation with the caption numbers is same, although there is now only 2 subdocuments left. Thus the problem does not seem to have anything to do with the number of subdocuments. The annoyment is anyway bigger when the amount subdocuments and captions grows...
The problem still exists with ooo1.1.2. Hope this will get fixed soon, and hope the priority will turned back to P2. I think the correct caption numbering should be considered a basic function for creating a master document. Currently the problem actually hinders people from using them. The problem creates huge and embarassing problems. For example I had my thesis sent to pre-examination recently, with around 35 tables in it. When I found out the problem with the captions I renumbered them by hand. You can imagine how flawless work that turned out to be, when I got the pre-examination notes back...
