Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25171
Numbered Lists in Writer Do Not Handle Spacing Well after the 9th Item
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
OpenOffice 1.1.0 as listed in Writer->Help->About on Windows XP Home Edition Searched database for "Numbered List" and "Numbered List Space" and did not find results matching this issue. Steps to Duplicate: 1. New Writer document 2. Key the following sequence: 1.[TAB]one 2.[TAB]two 3.[TAB]three 4.[TAB]four 5.[TAB]five 6.[TAB]six 7.[TAB]seven 8.[TAB]eight 9.[TAB]nine 10.[TAB]ten 3. Observe that items #1-9 each have a space between decimal and that item's text value 4. Observe that item #10 does not appear to have a space between the decimal point and this item's text value. I have also played with this and there is also no space when the list numbers are in the 100. etc. range (where the numbers in the numbered list are three digits long). If you view the Page Preview at this time and zoom in to 150 or 200 percent you should clearly see there is no space. This would indicate that this is not just a UI display problem but that the lack of a space would transfer to the printed document. I consider this a defect because at least one space should exist between the decimal and the text of that item. If you look at other word processors you will find that they give ample spacing between the auto-numbered item and that item's text to accomodate very, very long lists. Thank you for your consideration, Jason Smith remote29@yahoo.com
Hi Jason, there is no bug. You have several ways to format the numbering. Goto Numbering/Bullets (via format menue or context menue): (1) In tab "Position" use "spacing to text" which adjusts the space between left border of the field, where the numbers are, and the left border of the text. (2) In tab "Position" use "minimum space..." which adjusts the space between right border of the number to left border of the text. (3) In tab "Options" use the field "After" and enter an additional space.

As regina mentioned. This is not a bug. You have to set the desired spacings in the Format.Numbering.Position dialog.
CLosed.
