Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25142
Suggest that current name be selected in Sheet Rename dialog
Last modified: 2007-05-24 18:11:57 UTC
OO version 1.1.0 according to Help->About in the Writer application. Found on Slackware Linux 9.1 stock except for Dropline GNOME version 2.4.2. Steps to duplicate: 1. Right click on any Sheet tab at the bottom of the Spreadsheet window 2. Select Rename from the resulting menu 3. Observe that the text in the resulting window (dialog) is not selected From simply a user perspective, it would be more efficient to select all text in this dialog when this dialog is first displayed (after selecting Rename on the right click menu). I feel it is more efficient for the following reasons: 1. If the user simply wants to change a single letter (maybe a couple) he has to click anyway in this field. 2. Chances are the user, especially in the case where the Sheet is named the default Sheet1 name, wants to change to a totally different name. With this enhancement request the entire text is already selected, all the user has to do is start typing. 3. It could be the user simply wants to add text to the end of the current Sheet name, in which case all he or she has to do is hit the right arrow key on the keyboard to get the cursor at the end of the existing text. The same may be true if he or she wants to add text to the beginning of the current name, I have not tried it. Before submitting this issue, I searched the database for the following: "rename sheet" and "select all text" and did not find any hits relating to what is being reported here. Thank you for your consideration, Jason Smith remote29@yahoo.com
Hi Bettina, one for you. Note: ALT Click on the sheet name will select the entire name (on Windows, Linux and Solaris may depend on the windowsmanager used). Farnk
It would also be nice, if we could do it, with double click on the sheet tab, instead of ALT click.
Why is this bug still open? Works for me in OOo 2.2.
Fixed in the meantime.
Closing.
