Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25139
MS Word97 incompatibility - line spacing
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:31 UTC
We have a document that was created in MS Word 97 , and when it is opened in OOo the line spacing is incorrect and on page 7 the arrow pictures have moved so that they are covering some of the text. Also, document is 10 pages long in MSWord and 12 in OOo (probably due to the line spacing problem). I will send a copy of the document with this report.

No, it does not look like a problem of the line spacing here... There two other issues here, which lead to the strange behaviour. On first page, there is a problem with the TabStop import (which is already fixed in current OO 2.0 snapshot). Also, there's a problem with the numbering (the spacing to the text is too large, due to a tabstop in there, which is ignored by OO Writer's formatting.) As a workaround, you can delete some of the tabstops, so that the paragraphs in the numbering on page one all match one line. This will correct most of the documents misformatings.

MRU->FL: this is a good thing for the Numbering redesign. Word behaves a bit differently in this special case here. The numbering has a spacing to the text of 5.4 cm, but in the document there is only used 3.75 cm, because a tabstop is placed in this point. Writer's numbering should also take care of this, perhaps by a compatibility option...
FL->HB: Isn't this already covered by the new numbering extensions?
