Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 24922
Text language should change with input language selection
Last modified: 2007-01-18 14:19:23 UTC
When switching between languages in Windows, OO does not mark the text as being from the current input language. As a result all nondefault language input (e.g. Greek) must be hand-marked via Format > Character > Language. Otherwise the spell-checker will suggest alternative words from the default language (say English) for a word from the non-default language (e.g. Greek).
Hi, The lingucomponent project does not control how or if the language format of text it determined by the main application. It is simply passive in this regard. So I am moving this issue to the Word Processor project so that Hamburg developers will see it and if needed redirect it. Thanks, Kevin
Reassigned to MRU
...to SBA.
SBA: The document default language is set when the document is created and doesn't change unless the user makes changes via format-character... or applies the desired language to the paragraph style(s) in use. In OOo 1.1.1, the determination is "only" if the text is Western (English, German, ... including Greek), CJK (Chinese, Japanese or Korean) or Complex Text Layout (Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, Hindi..) For your problem, the Workaround goes like this: - After having entered Text from another language, switch on the AutoSpellcheck. - Click into an underlined word - Context-> click "Paragraph is [...]" -> This will set the paragraph attribute "language" to the desired one. Note that this only works if the linguistic component for the both languages must be installed and working. Another way is to introduce paragraph styles to your default template that has the other language set. Then you may choose between different styles that have different languages set. Especially for Greek, one might want to use another font than for English, this could be easily set as well. Changing the (i.e. Western) language according to the currenly used input sounds meaningful. But this is an Enhancement. So I have set this flag, adjust the summary to the current findings and reassign this issue to Bettina.
