Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 24652
Updating records using ODBC link
Last modified: 2006-05-31 14:29:06 UTC
I am currently trying to convert three companies over from MS Office. One of the companies main features is using access through an ODBC link to connect into a database. Through this, they would view and change records just by clicking on the cell they wanted to change. I think the openOffice package will be something they would easily convert to, only that they can't update records in a database table unless they actually know how to write SQL at this time. Thank you, DWW
http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/basic_rules.html#reproducibility :) (yes, it's not really linked from a public place, yet, but nevertheless valid) Sorry, but with the current issue description, we'd have a really hard time guessing what you're doing and what goes wrong ....
Sorry about that, the issue looks like it's with the install of a newer version. I have a windows 2000 pro os which I downloaded OpenOffice 1.0. When I hit F4 and called to a database, I was not able to click on a cell in a table and update the data. I installed 1.1, leaving the older version installed and still was not able to update the data. I tried uninstalling the older version and this didn't change anything. BUT, I did install it on a Windows XP desktop and it works perfectly. I'm not sure if this is to do with the install of the older version, or my inexperience with using the software. I will try uninstalling and reinstalling. Thanks, DWW
(no problem at all) It may be worth comparing versions of the ODBC drivers which are used. Try "Control Panel"|"ODBC data sources" resp. "Control Panel"|"Administrative Tools"|"Data Sources (ODBC)", and in the dialog which opens up there, look for the version of the driver which you use (you do not yet mention which kind of database you want to access, so I don't have a clue which particular driver you have to look for).
It's calling a SQL Server db. The records are retrieved, and viewed, it just doesn't allow updates. If it's using the ODBC driver that MS Access does, the driver works fine. DWW
Okay, "SQL server" is a relevant information :). For the driver versions: Sorry for being too imprecise, I meant that you might want to compare the versions of the driver on the W2K and the WXP desktops - since it's working one one of them only, maybe the drivers behave slightly different?
Congratulations on a wonderful office package.
