Description garymc 2004-01-14 08:14:03 UTC
I have a Word2000 document containing Input Fields with existing values. When
I load these into the OO Word Processor and select Page Preview, only the
first word of the field contents (ie. up to the first space) gets displayed.
When I view the contents of the field, it only contains the first word of the
original string.

please attach the offending document to this issue, so that we can reproduce and
fix the problem here. You can also send the document directly
(mru@openoffice.org) for the case it contains confidential data. Feel free to
re-open the issue when you've done.
Thanks for supporting us!

The URL of the document is mentioned in the URL field.

MRU->garymc: Sorry, I didn't see the filled URL field. But know issue will be
processed suitable.

MRU->CMC: The ASK fields in this doc all have a "default Response" assigned by
switch \d. If this is available Word uses this instead of the last enty.
Writer's import should also do this.

So we'll honour the documents previous field result over the \d if there are
both possibilities, this will make us look like word in this case, done for
2.0 in workspace tuamfilterteam23

This default behaviour of Word is annoying, and there's yet another opportunity to improve on
Word here. When you update all ASK fields (ctrl-A then F9) the first time, it makes sense to show the
/d text for the user to edit. The second time around however, wouldn't you want to see your last
input as default ?
Whether someone takes this up or not, thanks to everyone involved here for
addressing the original problem. Its been an introduction to the internals of an Open Source
development process and a wonderful issue tracking system.

Go OOo !

Yeah its a nuisance, in word for this field I've got a format of
ASK Bookmark "Prompt" \d "default text" "last field result"

"Bookmark" becomes the variable that gets set, "Prompt" (in this case
"Document") becomes the title of the popup box in word and writer and then in
word we've got the text that will be put in the popup box for the user to edit
or overwrite, and also the text that was last input by the user and is the text
visible in the document, and two can be different. In writer however the text
that is put in the input box will be the same text that is displayed in the
document so I can't seperate the two.

So unless this changes the text I can do for now is to put the default text of
the ASK field as well as its prompt into the single title of the input box
e.g "Prompt" - "default text"

I'm still using the same version of OOo I was when this issue began. I tried deleteing the default
values for the fields from the doc in Word. This is the most useable method in Word as the out of date
default doesn't show, and it still remembers my entered values somewhere.

However, I then
loaded the doc in Writer and saved it, then loaded it back into Word. Now \d is back, set as the values
I entered. This is annoying as I am trying to work without \d values in the doc at all.

Should
this be raised as a separate issue, and does this happen with the new version ?
Comment 9 caolanm 2004-02-06 10:49:08 UTC
new version should take care of that problem
Comment 10 caolanm 2004-02-18 10:32:10 UTC
reopen to reassign to QA
