Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 24296
add option to disable font substitution
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:12:33 UTC
If I try to change the font of one of the text styles, the missing characters of this font aren't displayed as such, but are substituted into a different font (such as Lucida Sans). There should be a method (in OOo options) to avoid this automatic font substitution for missing chars on a given font. Thanks, Pablo
Since this kind of substitution I want to have (for punctuation and other characters missing from a font), I would prefer it as an option per document as well.

original summary "missing characters on a given font" confirming, setting type to enhancement, changed OS, Plattform to ALL, updated summary. not touching target-milestone (has been set by hi)
Currently a font substitution is configurable via /Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org/Fonts. The settings in here overrule the default font substitution settings. Hint: in /Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org/Fonts it is even possible to define a substitute for a non existing font. But it sounds reasonable to also have an option to configure the glyph substitution as well. Offering a dialog to change this on a per document basis sounds as a good idea to me too. US->MMP: as you already own suggestions to improve the above mentioned dialog, pls. consider also this RFE when specifying a change. Pls. come back to me and HDU for details. Thanks.
To be clear/to avoid misunderstandings: An option to disable glyph-fallback is requested. i.e. instead of displaying the missing glyph using a different font OOo should display a placeholder/defined replacement character (maybe the red upside-down questionmark from math) when the requested option is checked.
changed target to Office later

I am no longer officially active on OOo. Please take over.
