Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 23984
EPS export of simple drawing ruins text
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:12:43 UTC
I have tried to create a drawing (flowchart) using OOo 1.1, and subsequently export that drawing as an eps file. The text in the drawing contains subscripts. The file looks good on screen in OOo, but in the exported eps file, all letters are far too narrow, if visible at all, creating simply an array of vertical lines instead of text. I have tried this using both Helvetica and Bitstream Vera Sans, mixed with a Symbol fonts. I am able to provide simple test cases for the issue if needed. Finally, disclaimer: I did look for this in the Issue data base and did not find a previous report. Hope I did not overlook anything.
Created attachment 12194 [details] test case - please export as eps to see the problem.
argh. Seems to be similar to #23141 upon second look. Anyway, please have a look ... The problem is not dependent on the font type I think.
One more comment: When looking at a (bigger) botched eps output file - same issue in principle - I noticed that the problems always begin right when I change fints - in the particular case from Bitstream Vera (the starting font of each text box) to Symbol. It now seems to me that the issue is triggered by changes of the font type - at least in my one bigger file, things are actually ok when changing back from Symbol to Bitstream Vera - but anything Symbol is destroyed. Notice that this is not an issue with the Symbol font IMO. In the test case that I originally appended, everything was messed up (i.e. also the Bitstream Vera parts). cheers selendar
Reproducible.
Reassigned to Christian.
Sven, please have a look
I've got the same problem with every eps I produce. The text is so narrow that you need to buy a lens to look the fonts in gv (yeah, there is the zoom...) Anyway, this seemd to be related to bugs 23194 (and 19422). Did you try with latest build? (claims in 19422 say it was solved in Ooo1.1.1. Thanks
It should be issue 19442, not issue 19422. It is possible that both issues are related, but they are not the same. In my tests, starting with a freshly opened Ooo and immediately exporting to eps invariably produced the same result (botched). In 19442, a font cache issue was suspected (which would explain why that problem only triggered after doing some other export like pdf). In that case, simply opening my drawing would already trigger the font cache issue. I will gladly test with Ooo1.1.1 beta or pre2 or whatever the name will end up being - however, I cannot perform a build from source (time constraints & slow machine). I hope the beta will be packaged as binaries soon?
Update: I retested the issue (eps export of my original file) using the prebuilt binaries of Ooo 1.1.1rc (current as of tonight). The issue is NOT fixed. eps export still breaks the fonts. However, something has changed. My document mixes bitstream vera and symbol fonts, and changes between them. Bitstream Vera is used first, then Symbol, the BSV, etc. In Ooo 1.1, all Symbol characters were replaced by vertical lines, which I suspected were badly misscaled (in x direction) characters. In Ooo 1.1.1rc, all Symbol characters are replaced by much less elongated, almost comma-shaped little dots. It would be nice if this were fixed for Ooo 1.1.1 release - my guess is that anyone exporting to eps will run into this problem as soon as they change fonts within their drawing - not such an uncommon situation. Anyway, thanks!
accepted.
