When I mark a cell as currency in OO 1.1 and try to enter 3.79 with the numpad,
the value is transformed into a date type field with value: 01-03-1979.

Which language (English, French, Spanish, Japanese,...) is your OS ?
Take a look to issue 7467.

Maybe, there is a confusion in value with dot or comma ?

In Cell with Currency Format filled exotic value, what do you think it should 
result ?

Thanx, my queries for the search engine didn't unveil this defect
(http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=7467). 

Just to add a note: my current OS is WinXP home, UK edition, dutch locale, using
US 101 key layout.
