Description rayll 2003-12-18 05:51:57 UTC
Create a document with several levels of headings.
Enable outline numbering on the headings.
Insert a table of contents into the document.
Edit the table of contents.
Open the "Entries" tab.
Select one of the levels that appears in the TOC.
Between the "E#" and "E" items, insert a new tab stop.
Set the stop to some amount, such as 2 cm.
Apply the changes and ensure that the tab appears in the TOC.
Open the "Page Style" window.
Open the "Columns" tab.
Select 2 or more columns and apply the change.

At this point, the second tab (right-aligned page number) for the entry with 2
tabs should be screwed up.

Putting the page back to one column fixes the second tabstop.

Reassigned to ES
Comment 3 eric.savary 2003-12-18 11:29:19 UTC
The problem is that "right align" refers to the *page* margin and not to the
*text area* margin.

This can be seen as an enhancement but I'd rather say that it's a concept bug...
Comment 4 Oliver Specht 2003-12-18 12:02:22 UTC
There are two problems.
One is the different interpretation of the right aligned tab stop outside of the
print area depending on the number of tab stops. The second is the ignorance of
the column settings while generating the index.

Fixing the second one would lead to defect indexes when decreasing the number of
columns which is not better.

Hi, how do we move forward with this issue?
Recently another misunderstanding of "right alignement" came up on the users
list. A user would like to see numbers (E#) right aligned to a Tab (T#) in the
ToC lines.

Is this covered with this issue?
Comment 6 Oliver Specht 2004-05-06 07:47:52 UTC
The difference in understanding "right aligned" is not the same as in this issue.
The problem here is that the intended behaviour is not provided for columns.
The intention of the "Right aligned" tab stop is to set the tab to the end of
the line. But what it actually sets it to the end of the page or frame. The
difference is only visible if there are columns.

To solve the right-alignment-of-numbers issue the tabstop type should be
adjustable in the index dialog. That type of enhancement needs a new issue.

Because of a shortage of resources we have to retarget this issue to OOo later.

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
