Description kjgartner 2003-12-16 15:10:51 UTC
Using version 1.1.0 of Open Office, I have created a two page document
that has some non-trivial tables. I did not perform any conversions -- this
is a native SXW document. *every* time I open this document, the CPU
utilization for SOFFICE.EXE maxes out my CPU and the title bar indicates
"(Not Responding)". I am able to kill the window by clicking the X in the
upper right corner, though I will be prompted with an "End Now?" dialog.

Bottom Line: I have revised my document in such a way that it can no longer be
opened or further modified. I have rebooted my machine and there is no
difference. At this moment, my data is no longer recoverable by any means I
know of.

An earlier version of this document repeatedly caused me this same problem,
generally after I had selected several cells and performed a horizontal two-
way split. Generally, the hang would occur immediately after the split without
allowing any further characters to be typed or the file image to be saved. I
was able to workaround these problems by manually inserting whole lines in the
table and then merging various fields, but this also caused cpu-intensive hangs
but much less often.

The offending SXW file is located at

Please let me
know how I can further elucidate the problem. If you meanwhile have suggestions
about how I can extract my data I would appreciate hearing these as well.

Thanks for your attention.
