Description jadrian 2003-12-13 12:18:36 UTC
Hello,
My sister has been using OODraw. We use KDE so she drags and drops pictures from
konqueror to OO all the time. I just noticed that OODraw, (unlike OOWriter)
doesn't store the picture itself. Only the picture location! This means if she
moves the pictures or the files to another location all the pictures are lost.

I someone can fix this behaviour, as well as supply some sort of script to fix
all the documents created like this - that is, thet turn the remote urls into
real picture insertions (hope that is clear enough).

Thanks,
J.A.

In case it matters, I'm using:
- SuSE Linux 8.2,
- OO.org SuSE 8.2 Rpms (http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=360)

I'll also attach a testcase OODraw file with only one picture "inserted" using
DnD from konqueror.

You can use Edit/link/break link to remove the link to the graphic. Normally it
should be possible to insert pictures directly using D'n'D and the CTRL-key.
There is a "+"-sign near the cursor when dragging but still the picture is
inserted as a link what is a bug.
Reassigned to Christian. Please have alook.

This works, great :)

Seems more than that to me.
I get a link to the picture if I use:
- Drag and Drop
- Drag and Drop + Ctrl
- Copy (konqueror) / Paste (OOoDraw)

In OOWriter all of this actually insert the picture. Any special reason why we
should need press control? Doesn't really seem intuitive... Shouldn't DnD be
enough?

I also find strange losing the pictures when I move the documents to another
dir... the links do not appear to be relative, so they should work no matter
where I store the documents in my account as long as the pics are accessible,
right?

indeed using ctrl doesn't work, I will investigate this

Thanks!
I'd like to stress though that even if it worked using ctrl I'd still find it
incorrect for many reasons.

- it would not be consistent with OOo Writer which actually inserts picture
with DnD, DnD+Ctrl. Consistency is important.
- there should be some feedback when creating a link to pictures insted of
inserting it, otherwise he might do it by mistake without beeing aware of it.
- there should be no need to use ctrl, simple DnD should insert the picture,
so should copy/paste.

IMO a nice way to manage inserting pictures would be:
Copy/Paste : insert picture
DnD : insert picture
Ctrl+DnD : small menu with both options, insert picture/create link to picture

Any progress on this issue? I sometimes forget about it, which leads to broken
files (because of the missing images).
IMO the default action should always be the safe one, e.g. including instead
of linking.

Thanks anyway, OOo is great.
