Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 2320
Delay in loading very huge files.
Last modified: 2004-03-15 08:53:24 UTC
Steps to Replicate the bug: 1. Create a huge presentation slide(eg:1512 slides) and save it as an Open Office Presentation file “testfile.sxi”. Then go to file menu and select on Open. 2. Invoke the OpenOffice.org 638 Presentation. 3. From File menu select Open function. 4. Select the file “testfile.sxi”, with 1512 slides (4.65MB). 5. The selected file opens in a new window. 6. It took approximately 25-30 minutes to open the file. Note: The same file when opened in Microsoft PowerPoint took 4-5 seconds.
Hello Sven, could you please give some explanations on the differences in internal handling of documents between OpenOffice and Power Point, thank you.
I think this bug is about a performance problem that happens if a sxi file is loaded that contains a huge amount of pages. So this bug is possible for CL.
I will look into this on next performance review
since the delay is not critical, I set the target Milestone to OOo 2.0
This is an important problem, but it isn't priority 1. Set to P2.
after armins performance updates considering page notifications I retested this in a src680 m28 and the loading of 1500 slides took less than 4 minutes. This is not that bad considering that presentations of this amount are no real use case and that even powerpoint takes some minutes to load such a beast. It appears to load it much faster since, due to its binary file format, it is able to only load the first slide. Just switch to the slide sorter to see how it simply loads the remaining 1499 slides in the background.
I think the current state works for me in OOo 2.0. What does QA think about this?
I also atested the bug again with an 1536 Slides document and the handling of the document is much faster. The bug is fixed in OOo 2.0.
set to works for me.
I close the issue. Please reopen it if you can still reproduce in the OOo 2.0 (Snapshot Developer Build 680)
