Description shotlen 2003-12-03 15:28:53 UTC
After inserting a graphic (*.jpg) into a text-document, the graphic will
disappear after a while ("Read Error" shows up at the place of the graphik).
Comment 1 shotlen 2003-12-03 15:37:56 UTC
document was protected by a password. may be this is important.
Comment 2 utomo99 2003-12-05 03:57:05 UTC
Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test
it/faster to confirm.
(Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more
time)
Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is
small, but we still able to see the problem.

Please explain more about your problem, your information is not enough
to investigate the problem. Please explain step by step how to
reproduce the problem. Thanks

shotlen, this read error mostly appears when the graphic had been inserted with
the "link" option enabled. So when the file is moved to a different place on the
computer OOo can't find the graphic which had been linked to the file.

So could you please check whether you had inserted the graphic with "link" enabled?

In case you hadn't we need to have a look at a file with which we could
reproduce the problem. So please attach an appropriate file, as utomo asked already.

Thanks.

Thanks for assistance so far. In the meantime I found out, that this issue only
occurs within password protected files (Writer). As a workarround I could
protect the document when it's creation process is finished. I could reproduce
the effect, so I'm nearly shure that the password protection feature causes the
problem.
Comment 5 guido.pinkernell 2004-02-03 13:49:31 UTC
I have tried to reproduce the problem with inserting
linked and nonlinked jpgs before saving with a password and
linked and nonlinked jpgs after saving with a password.

Reopened, all jpgs are there.

What do you mean with "after a while"? One hour, after having worked on the file
for one hour? After having opened and reopened the file several times?

Are you sure that your graphics aren't linked? Check here:
Righclick on (present or not present) graphic area > Graphics > Graphics, does
the field "Link" contain a path to the graphics file?
Comment 6 shotlen 2004-02-03 16:17:54 UTC
yes I'm sure, thet the jpg s aren't linked. I've reproduced this issue with my
newest project-document. Same issue.

1) created the document with .jpg graphics in the text and in the footer
2) saved without password
3) reopened
-> no problem

4) saved as another filename for testing
5) saved with password
6) changed the size of a .jpg graphic
7) error something like : "...graphic can not be displayed"
8) saved again (clicked the disk-button in the menue-bar)
9) closed
10) reopened
11) some .jpg graphics are completly dissappeared, some are still there

I'll try to upload the document. Thanks !!!

Tried to reproduce following your instructions. I can't.
Could it be an OS related Issue? Waiting for your bugdoc.

bugdoc - password is 'secret'
Comment 9 guido.pinkernell 2004-02-07 12:35:30 UTC
Thanks for providing the bugdoc.

Actually, I can't find any traces of any jpgs. No "Read Error", nothing. It
looks as if there have never been any graphics in there (except the OLE graphics
from Calc). Could you tell me on which pages to look for graphics? There are
large empty areas which follow hard page breaks. Some have red circles, are the
graphics missing there?

Could you please attach a file not being saved with a password yet, which still
contains and displays the jpgs? I could try to reproduce your problem with this
new bugdoc.
Comment 10 shotlen 2004-02-09 09:10:23 UTC
There were graphics in the footer (a gull) and yes, were you saw the red
circles, there was an jpeg too. I will upload another Doc. with all the correct
jpeg s without an password, for comparison. Thanks for asistance!

see issue 16297, this is not realy your issue, but your issue is related to
this, also to internal bug 112192. the disappearence of the images depends on
the password. this will be fixed in OOo1.1.1 final.
