I don't use the caps lock.  So I typically hold down my shift key as I type.  
You can not SHIFT-Backspace when entering cell data.  Shift-Backspace should 
still backspace - Excel and QP both allow this.

latest versions of OOo, as the problem(s) may have already been addressed.
