I have external references from one spreadsheet file to several others. The only
way to update the cells seems to be to close and reopen the file containing the
cell references. This puts up a dialog asking if you want to update the links.
Even deleting and replacing the reference has no effect - you still get the old
value.  Note that this feature works perfectly well in Excel, and has done for
years, which is why I consider this to be a defect.

Have you tried Edit - Links ?

Is the Link a DDE Link ?

Have a look at the Help system under Links please.
