Description slivkoff 2003-11-25 16:03:38 UTC
Issue pertains to both Writer and Calc. If I open a spreadsheet (.xls) or a word
document (.doc) initially saved on my Powerbook (OS 10.2.8), the text is
invisible. However, the toolbar (the cell contents box in Calc) displays the
text as I move through the spreadsheet, and not until I change the font does the
text finally show up. Note that I use basic fonts including Helvetia and Times.

Hi,

I could not reproduce this behaviour. Please be so kind and attach a
document that shows your problem.

Thanks.

Frank

PS Prio 3 is more appropriate, as I think it's a problem with fonts.

Hi,
Thanks for working on this with me. What a strange phenomenon (maybe
not that strange) I am experiencing here on my Linux machine. (No
problem on the P3 priority status, by the way.) Again, when I open an
Excel file in OO the text does not show up. This morning I tried it
again and, as expected, the text was invisible until I printed it
(both to a printer and to a pdf), upon which it magically appeared. If
I select all the text and change it to, say, Helvetia, it all magicall
appears as well. After some more work (over the last few minutes), it
just seems like OO does not like the Garamond font because if I change
the original file (on my Mac) to Helvitia or other OO compatible font,
the Excel document opens up with no invisible fonts. Thus, I'll have
to avoid Garamond from now on while generating files on my Mac.
Just close this case. You have more important matters to which to attend.
Sincerely,
Mark

Hi Mark,

do you had the garamond fonts installed on your Linux system ?

If so, have you used spadmin to make them available to OOo ?

Thanks for your help.

the invisible text still occurs due to, I assume, lack of either the
helvetia or times font in writer.
i did have an additional question regarding fonts: how can I add them
to office?
thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

please search in the Help system for spadmin.

This is the printer and Font configuration tool of OOo.

Thanks.

No more response since early December, so I assume that this was an font problem
and is solved by using spadmin for configuration.
