Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 22820
There is no way to delete a spreadsheet added to a presentation
Last modified: 2003-12-01 15:17:42 UTC
While in the Presentation application, I selected Insert > Sheet by mistake and there appears to be no way to remove it. First, and most disturbingly, there is no undo (the undo menu is grayed out). Second, the is no menu item for deleting the spreadsheet. There is is also no right-click menu for the spreadsheet that would allow me to delete the sheet. Finally, hitting "Delete" while having the spreadsheet selected only deletes the context.
Sorry, not reproducible. Does this happen everytime you insert a spreadsheet? Does this happen with other OLEs, too? Is it still reproducible? Please give a detailed step by step description of what you are doing. Thanks.
I suspect this is purely a UI issue. I simply couldn't find a way to remove the spreadsheet. Could you let me know how you would normally expect the user to remove a spreadsheet that was added to a presentation. I can then comment on whether this method is actually inaccessible or if I simply couldn't find it.
I would select it (->green handles) with one mouse click or with the TAB-Key and then hit the delete button. This works fine for me here.
Ok, now it starts making sense. It seems that after inserting the spreadsheet I need to click on my slide somewhere outside the spreadsheet. After that, I can select the spreadsheet as you suggested and can delete it. At this point I can also get rid of it using undo. The problem is that having inserted the spreadsheet by mistake, I couldn't tell that I wasn't yet "done" inserting it and that I had to do something else (click outside the spreadsheet) before I could undo the insertion or delete the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet doesn't look as a dialog at this point, it looks like it's already a part of the document. So, instead of completing the insertion process, i tried all conceivable ways of deleting the spreadsheet while it is still floating as a Calc object, and there seems to be no way to do that. I think the user should be able to undo their actions at any point. For instance, the user can close the "Open File" dialog without having to first select a file and then use undo, right? Same thing here, the moment I made a wrong move (by selecting Insert > Spreadsheet instead of Insert > Graphics), I should be able to go to "Edit > Undo" right then and get rid of the spreadsheet. Or perhaps I could delete it at this point by hitting delete or Ctrl-Z. Or, alternatively, the Calc object could appear in a separate window as a dialog, with a cancel button.
I think the problems lies within the OLE behaviour. It is okay that a spreadsheet is opened in edit mode because that is what I would normally do after inserting it. There must be some way to act IN the OLE and WITH it. So we have two different modes: select mode and edit mode. May be this makes it a little bit easier for you: when you have double clicked a rectangle you can insert text in it but you cannot delete the rectangle. First you have to leave the edit mode. If this is not handy enough for your please file an issue as type "enhancement". Thanks for your help.
