When I enter a comment in Excel 97 and transport it to OpenOffice1.1 it reads 
the comment fine but it losses the exact location of where the comment should 
be.

Yes, this is a known issue with notes/comments which we are hoping to
address. see issue 8342. The imported notes always appear in a similar
place in calc and is close to the default excel position. It is based
on the note cell position rather than the fixed position of the note
text box itself. But if that note position or size is changed in Excel
then a marked difference may result. Calc will need to be capable of
re-positioning and re-sizing of notes/comments to support this import
feature. I will close this as a duplicate of issue 8342.
