I have another document that was created in MS Word 97 and that OOo doesn't
handle very well.

I will attach a copy of the document with this report.

This is a feature.
The little red triangle (which of course will not be printed) only
shows, that the frame has content inside, which will not all be shown,
due to the user defined frame height. As you can see, there is an
empty paragraph below the 012 (also in Word), which is not completely
shown.
For this cases, OO Writer indicates by this, that there is more
content available than shown.
