Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 22764
PDF export creates files that can't be seen using gnu ghostview
Last modified: 2004-06-16 15:48:45 UTC
If you create a formula inside a writer document that has that pi * r² = 3.14 * 0.5^2 simeq 0.8 cm ^ 2 * 3.4 simeq 2700 bits the generated pdf document can't be seen neither by gv, kghostview, etc (but yes on acrobat reader), instead of that, if the formula is pi * r^2 = 3.14 * 0.5^2 simeq 0.8 cm ^ 2 * 3.4 simeq 2700 bits the generated pdf can be correcly seen on gv, kghostview, etc, i think it can be the others programs fault, but if at generation moment, you changed the ² thing to ^2 it would work also. cp->Albert: please provide an according OpenOffice document and the corresponding pdf version. cp->pl: please take care of this one.
.
I cannot reproduce this; i guess this may be a font problem. Please attach the failing PDF and the original document.

Strange, the file displays bad in gs 7.05 but without problems in gs 8.11. Furthermore the font being used for the small upper 2 is Nimbus Roman No 9L italic, which is a type 1 font; we don't do anything special here. I'll have to dig a little further; as a workaround i recommend updating to gs 8.11.
adjusted target
Because of limited resources we have decided to set this task to OOo2.0. A workaround is to update to gs 8.11.
works with gs 7.07, so seems to be a problem of old ghostscript versions
