Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 2274
Use $TMPDIR rathern than $TEMP as the temporary direcotry during installs
Last modified: 2005-09-28 08:35:08 UTC
While installing on a Linux system that had a fairly small /tmp, but a large /var/tmp, I discovered that unlike most software which hnors $TMPDIR, the install/setup binary wants to use $TEMP instead. I had to run 'strings' on the binary and do some creative guessing to figure this out.
Hi Falko, here's an idea from Valdis. Sounds good to me.
This issue is re-assigned to Christian Jansen for further evaluation.
We should evalute this. I will forward this to the responsible engineer.
Reassigned to Bettina.

Installation works well on a linux system using $TEMP. Furthermore, the whole application needs this assignment with a system having a small /tmp. export TMP=/var/tmp soffice Everything seems to work ... except printing to a file which hardcodes the temp directory as /tmp.
I think that the directory for temporary files used for printing can be changed by the evironment variable TMPDIR. But the hardcoded path /tmp is used in sal/osl/unx/signal.c in the method ReportCrash. I vote to use the functions like tempnam, tmpnam, mkdtemp, mkstemp instead of an own solution.
What's the status of this Issue? Looks like that the problem of Valdis is solved. Suggestion from pmladek should be filled in a different issue (if it is not still fixed). This bug is going to be closed in a two feeks if there will be no answer.
>>This bug is going to be closed in a two feeks if there will be no answer. closing now as obsolete, for 2.0 there is no seperate installer anymore.
