Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 22725
On french Win2k, typing a decimal number with dot (.) give a date
Last modified: 2008-04-11 08:12:21 UTC
On French Win2k, enter a decimal number with dot (.) give a date. When I type 1.2 in a cell, the result is 01/02/03. Normally (depending of language) on Excel 97, it gives a TEXT TYPE or a DECIMAL TYPE, NOT A DATE TYPE. I tested on French Win2k with English OOo 1.1 and French OOo 1.1. whatever decimal dot "." is numpad dot or principal keyboard dot. Note : Decimal dot in French is a comma ",". See issue 1820.
I tested with OOo1.1.0 en under XP and under linux and can not duplicate your findings. Default format for cells is numberGeneral and NOT date. Date may be set in your template. Try looking to the template and report back.
I retested English OOo 1.1.0 on French Win98SE and French Win2K SP4. I have the same problem, it gives a date format. I'll post PNG files in a zip file. I examine the cell format window. In number tab, there is a combox box for language. In French, In excel 97/2000 (I don't know for other programs), type 1.2 doesn't give a date 01/02/2003. It's need to be discussed. It's maybe a language problem, because in german language, type 1.2 give 01.02.03.
