I've such problem.

Every time I try to make some hdd operations Writer (also tested Calc) hangs up
permamently. I use Mandrake Linux installed on HP Omnibook XE3, 256MB, Savage
Graphics, filesystem is reiserfs (also tested with pure ext2 - the same
reaction).  X-Window manager is Gnome (KDE testwe as well - the same result)
Also tested with Debian (kernels 2.2.19 and 2.4.12).

To be sure I tested also SO 5.2 and SO 6.0 beta - reactions identical - every
atemt to hdd brings system to crash (switching to text console enables me after
5 minuts of waiting to kill these tasks and restore system to functionality).

On the same machine under Win98SE with OO 638 thereis no probles - works fine.

How can it be a word processor issue when you say "also tested calc)??? => I changed the component to "framework".

Problem wasn`t reproducible when running staroffice version 641 under
Linux (testet with Mandrake 7.2 and Suse 7.2). Everything works fine
and file-operations such as file-open or save-as on different hdd`s or
networkdrives are doing fine and are working in time.
