The version of _sre.pyd that comes with pyuno in OOo1.1 is broken. It is only 
12kb long, as opposed to the one in the normal ActiveState distribution, which 
is 56kb long. The result is that calls to "import re" from the pyuno verion of 
python fail on Windows. The workaround is to copy a version of _sre.pyd over 
from a finctionaing ActiveState installation, but obfiously the copy in the 
distribution should be fixed.
