Description mestech 2003-11-13 21:27:25 UTC
While creating a new drawing in OOo 1.1 (Linux, RH8.0) I ran into a problem when
zooming to make fine adjustments to the points of lines so they would meet.

I tried it with a new drawing and find that the different objects don't
represent the same location between 100% and 200% zoom.

To recreate:
New drawing.
While in 100%
Place two diagnol lines that cross each other close to the center of the paper.
Draw another object, such as an elipse and place it at the intersection.
Change zoom ( used view/zoom) and the elipse won't be in the same location.
If you align the elipse now, it will change when you return to 100%

I have noticed this with just lines as well.

Just noticed that if I use the bottom slider and scan across the
image, the aspect corrects itself. This makes it look like an issue
with the drawing to the screen.

I tried to use the vertical slider and the diagnol lines were broken
and distorted.

If the object is aligned after using the bottom slider and forcing a
redraw, the positions are correct.

I tried to change the option settings but did not get any success in
correcting this problem.

Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test
it/faster to confirm.
(Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more
time)
Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is
small, but we still able to see the problem.

If this really can be corrected with a redraw (CTRL-SHIFT-R) then it
seems to be a problem with the graphic card driver. Would it be
possible to attach screenshots? Thanks.

I have uploaded a file with the problem. I created the file with the
description I included in my original post.
I accidently uploaded the screen capture 3 times. I wasn't getting
any response that the file was uploaded.

I did some more testing and I found that the variable zoom will also
affect the operation of the refresh. I found that the variable zoom
affected the image at 161% but not 161%. After a while, the problem
occured at different zoom factors. Ususally after changing workspace
screens.

I tried CTRL+Shift+R with no change.

At 75% I moved the bottom slider back and forth very quickly and the
image would tear apart but CTRL+Shift+R would correct the screen.

I will still look at my video card and driver.

I have been using "The Gimp" for editting and graphics work on a daily
basis and I have not noticed any problems in 8 months.

I tested on win xp, OOo 1.1 but cannot reproduce your problem
xzooming the doc from 20, 100 and 100% look same.
so it must be linux problem. sorry I cannot tested. hope other QA will
see this and test it
Comment 10 mestech 2003-11-19 15:33:18 UTC
Utomo99, As I stated in my description, the problem occurs at greater
than 160%. Not at 100%.

I came across the problem when trying to position some objects closer
together.

Try going between 100% and 200% and see if the problem occurs.

I have tried other programs and I don't have any problems that I can
trace. I don't know if this could be related to how OOo draws the
screen or stores stuff in memory while working.

I don't know if the problem could be related to 22475 where a macro in
the background on a spreadsheet affects other operations in OOo, such
as formula entering in another spreadsheet or closing OOo write
documents. The macro has some screen update info while running.

Yes, I already test
20, 100 and 200% look same
Instead of
20, 100 and 100% look same
sorry wrong typing.

It is not happend in my win xp machine

I finally tried this on another computer and I could not recreate the
problem on that computer either.

As suggested it may be a driver problem on this computer. I have
checked drivers (Xfree) and they are current. There may be an issue
with the driver that I am not sure about and I will have to check.

I have a Dell computer with a Radeon 7500QW video card.

With this in mind, I feel that this issue is with this computer and I
will agree if this issue is closed as I cannot replicate on another
computer.

Thanks for your investigative work. So I close this one. If you have
more info please feel free to reopen it. Good luck.

I played with various video drivers and modules for my ATI card with the fault
still present.

Upgraded to Fedora Core 1 and problem is corrected on this machine. Must be an
issue with RH 8. Of course RedHat is dropping support for 8 as of tomorrow.
