I have a word document with paragraph heading and numbering, and OpenOffice does 
not import it properly.  When I import it, the first thing I get is a request 
for which kind of filters I want to use.  Whatever I select seems to make no 
difference.  Instead of a nicely formatted text I get the text, but with the 
formatting replaced by odd characters, or what seem to be Word formatting 
commands.

It is a Word for Windows 2.0 document. I don't know, if newer versions
of OOo have a suitable filter, I've got OOo1.1RC2. You can open it
with StarOffice7.0 testversion, but you must choose the filter in the
setup, it will not be installed be default.

I got an answer from Regine saying that the document that could not be 
imported was a Word 2 document.  I loaded it into Word 2000, saved it 
in that format, and then Open Office ran it with no trouble.  Thanks,
