Description mini 2003-10-22 22:23:40 UTC
When using OpenOffice Draw and exporting to EPS, some text objects sometimes
disappear, or rather the text is replaced by dots (or possibly an extremely tiny
font). The problem can *sometimes* be fixed by resizing some objects and then
resizing them back, or changing font and change it back. It seems to be
connected to the usage of Courier or Courier New (I haven't seen the problem
with other fonts. It happens in about 50% of the cases with the files I have.

The bug is very annoying indeed. Let me know if I can help test this.

Attaching sxd and eps file.

Hi Mikael,

I was unfortunately not able to reproduce your problem, but it sounds
like it is connected to the following issue: 19442.

As the latter will be fixed for
OOo1.1.1, would you try that version, once it is out, and tell me if this is fixed for
you?

For the time being, the following workaround might help: first of all,
change any of the defaulted settings in the EPS export dialog, export as EPS. Then,
quit the office, and open
user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Common.xcu. Make a backup of that
file. After that, search for "EPS", and add the following below that node:

     <prop
oor:name="TextMode" oor:type="xs:int">
      <value>1</value>
     </prop>

This
will enable EPS text export as true PostScript text, not glyph outlines (which might
have other problems, among them the fact that you get different fonts on different
PostScript devices. But at least you have something visible).

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm sorry I forgot to mention my platform:
I'm running an up-to-date Debian unstable system, with a fresh install
of OOo 1.1. I will surely try 1.1.1 as soon as it is out (when? :-).

19442 does not immediately seem to be related. I can't reproduce that
bug, and my problem appears even on a newly opened document (first
export).

Thanks for the workaround! Unfortunately, I use Swedish characters in
some places, and they look like [Ã¥] (two strange characters = the
UTF-8 encoding) in the export. I might be able to work around that
too, though. Else I'll find a font that works (Courier 10 Pitch seems
to work so far).

I haven't yet found the exact circumstances to repeat this bug, but
it's certainly repeatable. I'll keep trying... Anything else I can try?
Comment 7 mini 2003-10-23 16:15:20 UTC
No, Courier 10 Pitch also shows the same problem.

But now I can repeat it 100%! It seems it might be related to 19442
anyway.

To reproduce:
Start OOo
Open 6_1_1_identifier.sxd, export to EPS immediately
Open 6_1_1_2_entry.sxd, export to EPS immediately (without closing the
other one)

The second will be empty, while the first is fine. I'm attaching the
two test files at once.

I might add that I tried reversing the order in which I opened the
files, with the same result, i.e. the second one is always the problem.
Comment 11 thb 2003-10-27 11:08:41 UTC
Sorry, I'm still unable to reproduce. Herbert, could you take over, that's most
probably your area.
Comment 12 hdu@apache.org 2003-10-27 13:00:48 UTC
The symptoms are different, but the core reason is the same as in
issue 19442. The core problem will be fixed in OOo 1.1.1.

Since there is no status "core reason duplicate", even though the bug
itself is not duplicate, I think the best matching status for this one
is "duplicate".

Tested in internal master and it looks fine to me. I am closing the issue now.
If there are problems in future versions please feel free to reopen the issue.
Thanks for your help!
