Description hjmanalam 2003-10-14 23:06:01 UTC
While the DB access works surprisingly well, (I'm connecting to a postgres DB via
ODBC), when I try to copy the data returned into a Calc or Writer document, it
doesn't work.
In Writer, according to the help and the nice tutorial on using OO and MySQL
(http://www.unixodbc.org/doc/OOoMySQL.pdf)
you should be able to either drag 'n' drop the data into a Writer or Calc doc and
have the data transfer into the target doc. In the case of the writer doc, when a
selection is made of data in the Data Browser (upper pane), 2 buttons should
become activated - the 'Data to Text' and 'Data to Fields' to format the data either as
plain text or as a table. Neither the drag 'n' drop work, nor are the buttons
activated. In Calc, there are no such buttons and teh paste does not work correctly
either.
However in both Calc and Writer, if a selection is copied from the Data Browser and
then pasted into the doc, the GU action I implies that this is happening, but you get
only a single field or cell of the data, not the entire selection, so something is
working, just not the way it's supposed to.
According the tutorial mentioned above, the simple copy & paste wasn't working
with OO 1.0 either, altho the buttons did work to copy the entire range.

The reason this is marked P2 is that it makes any Database connectivity for OO just
about useless.

Thanks
Harry

correcting sub component (see
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/describecomponents.cgi?component=Database%20access,
please), and default owner

the single value copied to the accepting doc is the one that the cursor was
over when the copy command was executed or the drag was initiated.

OK, another update - after I tested OO 1.0.3 to see what changed in the
data handling, I re-tested OO 1.1 on both my machine adn another and
found that the data copy does work, just not the way it's described in the
help..
It DOES work with the data browser in 1.1 very smilar to 1.0.3 and allows
copy of data from the data browser window to the open doc (in both writer
and calc windows). It doesn't work perfectly in that the copy & paste don't
work (with either the copy/paste buttons or shortcuts, or the drag 'n' drop),
and the 'Data to Text' buttons are greyed out incorrectly (indicating that
they're non-functional, when in fact they /are/ functional - this is the part
that I missed. If they ARE functional, they shouldn't be greyed out; if they
aren't greyed out, it sure looks like they are), but at least the buttons work
when pressed. Other parts of the Data Browser seem to work exactly the
same.
When a selection is made in the data browser and the 'Data to Text' button
is clicked, the correct data /IS/ copied to the appropriate pane.
Maybe nect release, the help doc could be adjusted to reflect this, and the
buttons could be hilighted correctly.

So we can close this issue?

change subcomponent to 'none'
