Opening of a rtf document gives a 
"Main memory shortage. Please quit other applications or close some windows
before continuing" 
error message. It then crashes.

You can try it yourself with this document
http://fakir.intermedia.uib.no/s.rtf

The document was first made in OpenOffice 1.0.3 and then it was modyfied in MS
Word on w2000 with latest service packs. 

I am currently using openoffice 1.1 rc4 or rc5 (Why is there no rc number in the
about box ????) on the machine replicating the error time after time

I can open the attached doc in OOo 1.1 on a Win98 machine.

To see version number open About, then press Ctrl+S+D+T.

I can Reproduce the problem on 
OpenOffice 1.1 (default Install, US), Win XP Pro Sp1. 
(And MS Office XP Sp2). 
It is real problem

A friend of mine told me that he could replicate it with his 'brand 
new' Oo with Norwegian translations on Windows XP.

I can however open it without any problmes in Oo 1.0.2 on my Linux 
Mandrake 9.1 box

MRU->CMC: checked with filter12 CWS, there the file still crashes OO.
With CWS filter14 it is ok, but I think we should catch it with OO 1.1.2.

please explain why change this to 1.1.2 instead of 1.1.1 ? 
as in

P1 and P2 deserve for 1.1.1.
please try it if possible.

Verified. Fix will be included in OO 1.1.1.
