Description aholiab 2003-10-14 02:35:19 UTC
In a file that I'd like to attach (but I have no clue how), I've used the 'Key'
panel to define names for other panes. (The full spreadsheet is budget-like.)
So I'll highlight A3:B24 and execute \Insert\Names\Create\Left Column, and
proceed as if everything were solved.

But when I close and then re-open this spreadsheet, precisely half of the named
cells have lost their names--precisely every other cell, in fact. So my attempt
to control my data with names is pointless.

Then when I re-open the spreadsheet and re-name these cells, my other panels
are also repaired except for some of the cells in which what was supposed to be
<<=Suncom>> now is <<='suncom'>>. So merely re-naming the 'Key' panel is
insufficient: I have to go to the other panels and re-enter (at least some of)
the name-dependent (and very simple) formulas.

Any idea what might be happening? I'm using rc5. I didn't try naming until rc5,
so I don't know what would have happened earlier.

Thanks so much for your attention. Let me know how to send this problem file,
and I'll send it right away.

Hi,

please attach the file using the link 'Create a new attachment' right
under the Keywors field.

I didn't document the problem in my last pass. But here's what
happened. This file is from a larger budget/financial forecast file
for personal use in which I used one panel to estimate future
expenses (the "Key" panel). I named *each* cell in column B (B3:B24)
by the text in column A. Everything works fine until I close and re-
open, and then every other cell in B3:24 has lost the name attribute.
Really strange!

Sorry I couldn't figure out how to attach the document before.

Hi Philip,

I don't know what's going wrong on your machine. I can't reproduce it.
Checked it on 2 machines.

Is it possible that you have not pressed the add Button to add the
range name ?

Sorry for no better reply.

No answer since late october, so I assume a user mistake and close this one as
worksforme.
