I had a working OpenOffice 1.0.1 version on my SuSE 8.1 Linux distribution.
I waited till the final release of OpenOffice 1.1 was released and installed it 
with the help og the manual (german version). so i typed (as root) "./setup -
net". The installation was successful, but it didn't ask me that there already 
was an old version of OpenOffice, so i installed it into the already existing 
folder "/opt/OpenOffice.org". After installation (and rebooting), i am not able 
to start OpenOffice anymore! When i click the icon on the (KDE) desktop, only 
the mouse pointer changes for some seconds. If i start it in a shell 
("openoffice"), the following messages appear:

how can i get a working OpenOffice now?

Installing OOo 1.1.0 over an existing 1.0.x doesn't work! Dont expect
OOo to work. Making a clean install off 1.1.0 and you will see that it
works. OOo isn't also responsible for the versions distributed by
other, e.g. Suse. They have their owns scrips that are not supported
by OOo. See issue 20849.
