Description Unknown 2003-10-04 22:39:58 UTC
Comment 1 daniel.rentz 2003-10-09 14:53:59 UTC
Translated:

In a document with 2 or more languages the context menu offers: "word
is <other language>" or "paragraph is <other language>".
I want to have a 3rd option "document is <other language>". This would
make the spell checking in long passages in a different language
easier and more efficient (than with styles - see problems with fonts).

Own remark:

Don't know what the last sentence means, but what's the problem using
paragraph styles?

Hi,

Thanks for the translation!

This appears to be a "sw" component issue since they control the spellchecking
dialogs and things.

I will move this issue to the right place.

Thanks again!

HI->MRU: As I know this will already supported isn't it.
Comment 4 michael.ruess 2003-10-10 14:13:24 UTC
No, this isn't supported directly. At the moment it is only possible
to set the language in the "Default" paragraph style. But I think, it
could be useful to have an Option like this in the Context menu, which
then sets the mentioned style property.

MRU->TL: Do you think, something like this can be implemented for 2.0
without too heavy effort?
Comment 5 thomas.lange 2003-10-10 14:23:58 UTC
TL->OS: UI issue.
Comment 6 thomas.lange 2003-10-10 14:24:15 UTC
TL->OS: UI issue.
Comment 7 Oliver Specht 2003-10-10 14:35:41 UTC
Title changed from "Wörterbuch-Sprachwechsel:ganzes Dokument auswählen"

OS->FL: It sounds like a good idea to change the document language
that way.
Comment 8 frank.loehmann 2003-10-16 14:42:54 UTC
FL: The problem is how to guess which language the document is written
in. If we could not detect this we have to use sub menu entries.
I prefer the solution wiht a control in the statusbar to select the
language for current selection or document like the user is used to
from competitor. We have already a draft of this spec.

This issue comes up again and again, so we have to handle this usability issue.
I still prefer the language control in the status bar to set langiage for
selection or document.

Comment 18 eike 2006-05-26 13:43:48 UTC
I want to support fl's comment from OCT 16 2003. There should be a reliable
way to choose the language of a paragraph, no dependency on OOO's guessing of
the correct language.
More ideas about the language setting:
- A paragraph's language setting should be visible in the GUI like e.g. the
font.
- The language setting should be carried over to the next paragraph after
pressing the return key.
- The language setting should not go away when changing something else like
the background colour. (I think it currently does.) But the language setting
should revert to the document's standard value when selecting the "standard"
entry in the RMB menu.
Comment 19 frank.loehmann 2006-07-13 16:26:25 UTC
set target to OOo 2.x
Comment 20 Mathias_Bauer 2007-01-17 20:41:04 UTC
I'm currently consolidating all issue around language setting in the oldest one
I could find, issue 1034.
As this issue only adds very few new things I mark it as a duplicate. I move
Eike's comment to issue 1034.
