Tried to write a letter and print envelope using OOo Writer-RC5.  Equipment
used: Dell Dimension 4100, WinXP, HP Deskjet2100.  Inserted an envelope and
choose the orientation to print the envelope long ways in the middle of the
page, similar to WinWord envelope wizard.  First attempt-I inserted the envelope
in the document and tried to print on a blank envelope using the variable width
feeder on the front of the printer.  The output on the envelope was blank. 
Second attempt-I inserted the envelope as a new document with the orientation in
the middle of the printer, so I could use the variable width paper feeder on the
front of the printer.  The envelope came through the printer blank.  Third
attempt-I tried to print the envelope on standard 8.5"x11" paper in the paper
tray.  The output on the paper from the printer was blank.  I have not tried to
print an envelope using the previous versions of OOo.

thanks for using and supporting OpenOffice...

Please try our newest version and send a new comment if your problem occurs 
again...I tried this with OOo1.1.0 680m17(Build: 8720) (this is a developer
build!!) and didn't get an empty page/envelope...

I'm using OOo 1.1.1a on Windows 2000 and have a similar, but not exactly the 
same issue with my HP DeskJet 722c.  I am unable to print envelopes.  I can 
insert, create and save envelopes as Templates, but when I try to print the 
result I get different problems depending on which printer driver I use.
Using the standard Windows HP Deskjet driver, the envelope prints in proper 
orientation and size, but is offset about 2" too high on the envelope so that 
the the return address is lost over the top of the envelope and the main 
address is near the top.
If I use the FinePrint driver (a commercial driver enhancement for Windows 
printing) the envelope is scaled to 8.5 x 11".
All the page and printer settings are correct in OOo Writer, and the documents 
appear as they should in the application window.
