Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 20257
Please provide context menu to put a character above another or make it more accessible
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:12:49 UTC
I needed to be able to make an R with a ^ character over it, along with r with a ^ character over it, and t with a ^ character over it (for mean-value method of linear analysis for circuits). I couldn't figure out how to do it and the Help files didn't provide me with a clue on how to do it, nor did the context menu. If its there, it needs to be better documented. Example: ^ R (Imagine that the ^ is in the same character cell)
there are just 3 ways i know to do this 1. call the formel editor and typ-> hat R <-or hat r or any other letter you like and you get the letter with a ^ on it 2 second is just type hat r in your document select this text and click on the tool bar -> insert object -> formel editor. the other way will be by looking for an font with this letters and insert this letter as special character reassigned to jw
Thanks for the info on the workaround.
What if you have Cu as in C with u being a subscript? I can't seem to apply the formulas to this.
What I meant is it removes the subscript attribute on the u <offtopic>I also am having trouble moving this object to the beginning of the line. I can only move it vertically.</offtopic>
So you don't waste your time, I figured it out: overline {C sub u} sup 2 But the questions are: * Why isn't there a menu to do this quickly? * Why are superscripts and subscripts lost when going into the formula editor. Shouldn't they be maintained?
The issue for carrying over the subscript is obviously for another bug. I just realized it would probably be handy if A/B were converted to "A over B" when opening the formula editor. Is there a bug on all this? Just to clarify since I got a bit off-topic: This bug is about GUI in the regular context menu for doing some of the most common formula things automatically, or at least a context menu item that says "Open formula editor" or something when something is highlighted.
hi netdragon, fist: please open a single issue for any bug. i will set this to enhancement: Please provide ability to put a character above another or make it more accessible -> Why isn't there a menu to do this quickly? please open a issue for the other bugs you mentioned, because will not geht a mail if you post this here, after i reassigned this issue changed issue typ e to ENHANCEMENT reassigned to bh
I'll see how this is handled before filing new bugs because I believe a generic way of handling this using a context menu entry would suffice for all issues mentioned if Formula Editor's import works correctly. Select text and: Context menu -> Hat Overline Fraction etc Open in Formula Editor... Where the selected text would be then placed into the formula method you selected.
It's also an issue with writing periodic decimals in main text as stated in Bug 23764 for the formula editor.
(Sorry - remove my last comment - I was at the wrong bug.)
