Description cez801 2003-09-27 11:53:57 UTC
When I tired to install the software. An Illegal Operation Error was displayed
just after the contents of the package were unpacked.
I tried 3 times to install Open Office and failed.

The machine was a Windows 98, that had only just had the OS re-installed. So all
it had was 98, Opera and the drivers for graphics cards and network cards.

After reading the readme.txt, there was some talk about problems with Graphics
cards. So I downloaded and installed the latest NVIDIA (4.14.10)drivers, which
did not help.
After that I downloaded and installed the latest directX drivers from MS. This
changed my directX from 6.1 to 9.0b.
This seemed to solve the problem (seems a little strange, but I can think of
anything else that I did).
So in the end I managed to get OO 1.1 RC5 installed.

JA->cez801: please provide more information about your graphics
hardware and give us some information about your system. Is it an
english Win98 or has it a different localization like eg chinese ? How
is your system configured. Do you use an english locale ?

JA: The only thing happening here might be the text input method which
AFAIK changed with the installation of IE 5.5. Probably this DLL is
part of a newer DirectX installation.

JA->OF: please check this on a vanilla Win98 installation and tell
Stephan Schaefer your findings.

I've tried on a new Win98SE installation with DirectX 6.1a: No
problem, OOo installation runs fine, starts without problem.

Not reproducible with 1.1.0 final.
